Randy DuWayne Sullivan, 62, of Bay City passed away on June 13, 2011. Randy was born November 19th, 1948, in Bay City, raised there, and always considered Matagorda County home. Randy graduated from Bay City High School class of 1967, attended Sam Houston State University and completed his education with the Texas DPS Academy
Randy enjoyed a career of protecting the lives of others serving an accumulated 20 years with Texas Highway Patrol, Brazoria County Sheriff's Department, and Texas Department of Criminal Justice. During his service, he also worked with the Texas Railroad Commission and was assigned as a special theft investigator assigned to the Texas Rangers where he merited a special citation from the governor for his work in detecting and helping to prosecute a major theft ring. Randy was also a security project manager for the South Texas Nuclear Project.
Growing up he enjoyed countless hours in the bays of Matagorda alongside his father and brother while excelling in football and baseball through High School. During his later years books on history intrigued his mind as he bled orange for the Texas Longhorns. Most importantly, Randy was known to many as a good man with a wonderful spirit. Never one to shy away from a good conversation or story, he never met a stranger. He found much pleasure socially entertaining his family and friends while so many memories were created on his behalf leading to friendships across the state of Texas. He cherished all of his family and friends from childhood until his final days.
He is survived by his mother Vi Sullivan, wife Debbie Gray Sullivan and son Trey Sullivan and daughter-in-law Schelli; one grandchild Rylan Audrey Sullivan; step-daughters: Stacy, Niki, Mandy, Kelli and their spouses and eight step-grandchildren; sister Susan Warren and husband James; nieces Lee Ashley Dittlinger and husband Patrick, Elise Warren, and Brittany Sullivan.
He is preceded in death by his father Audrey Noble Sullivan and brother Charles Rickey Sullivan.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to Odyssey Hospice, Pine Shadows Nursing Home, including his personal nurse Mae and all of the other wonderful staff who took such good care of Randy during his stay.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the funeral home. Rev. Tom Quirk will officiate the service to be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 17, 2011, at First Christian Church in Bay City. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
