Rachel Ann Burns, 67, of Texas, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025. She was born on February 14, 1958, in Baytown, Texas, to the late Anthony Rusk and Betty Jo Ray Rusk.
Rachel's life was marked by her deep love for family, her creative spirit, and her appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren and caring for those she loved.
She lived in Wyoming for 20 years, where she developed a lifelong love for camping in the mountains and the peace that nature offered. An avid fisherwoman, she cherished the quiet moments by the water. Rachel was also a gifted pianist and piano teacher who shared her love of music with many. Her artistic talents extended into painting and quilting, and her hands were rarely still when she had the chance to create something beautiful.
Rachel was loved by so many and will be remembered for her warmth, her creativity, and the way she made others feel truly cared for.
She is survived by her son, Johnny D. Burns, Jr. and his wife Lyndsey Burns; her daughter, Christie Renee Burns and husband, Alex Garza; her sister, Couqueze Schrader; her brothers, Ray Rusk and Geren Rusk; her beloved grandchildren, Kierstyn Burns, Raeley Burns, Israel Garza, and Giuliana Burns; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Ashby Cemetery near El Maton, Texas.
