Obituary

Phyllis Culver, 77, of Matagorda, TX passed away April 6, 2007 in Houston. She was born October 15, 1929 in Bay City, Texas to Douglas and Bernice Augsburger Yeamans and was a lifelong resident of Matagorda, Texas.

She graduated from Bay City High School in 1946 and attended Wharton County Junior College. She worked as clerk in the Matagorda County Clerk's office for D. B. Hinton. She married James Lee Culver on November 24, 1950.

She was a lifetime member of Christ Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild and Vestry, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the ECS, Daughters of the King and the church choir.

Phyllis was a member of the Mary Rolph Marsh Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Matagorda County Genealogical Society, served on the Matagorda County Historical Commission, Matagorda Cemetery Association where she served as secretary for many years and a charter member of the River's End Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Asa " Tinker" Yeamans, Sr., her husband James Lee Culver and brother Neil Yeamans.

She is survived by her daughters Suzanne Culver of Matagorda, Jennifer Klaiber & husband Tom of Matagorda, Jami Knause & husband Darayle of Austin, and Jeannie Hinton & husband Craig of Bay City. Grandchildren, James Eric Klaiber, Lauren Ashley Hinton, Allison Kate Hinton, Madeline Jean Malone, Jacob Culver Knause and Luke William Knause. She is also survived by her brothers Douglas Yeamans & wife Shirley of Aransas Pass and Asa H. Yeamans, Jr & wife Verna of Rockport, sister-in-law Frances Yeamans of Aransas Pass and her aunts Helen Thorton of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Thelma Dellis of Bay City.

Pallbearers are Ronnie Yeamans, Stephen Yeamans, James Yeamans, David Culver, Ray Culver, Jr. and Bill Anderson. Honorary pallbearers are Carl Anderson, Johnnie Frank Long, Homer J. "Bud" Moore, Jr., Robert Greenwood and Alan "Spot" Hinton.

Visitation will be Monday, April 9, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Hoss Gwin officiating. Interment will follow at Matagorda Cemetery.

Donations can be made to Christ Episcopal Church, PO Box 673, Matagorda, TX 77457 for perpetual care of the church garden and the Memory Book fund.
