Phil Thurmond, 69, of West Columbia, TX passed away in his sleep on April 14, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Sugarland, TX where he succumbed to his battle with lung cancer.

Mr. Thurmond was born August 23, 1943 in Wharton, TX to the late Robert Lee Thurmond and Chedeva Bell (Beverly) Thurmond. He leaves behind two sisters, Nadine Sadler of Montezuma Creek, UT and Darlene Noska of Bay City, TX and sister-in-law, who became a sister, Gay Lynn Thurmond of Blessing, TX. Mr. Thurmond also had a younger brother, Arthur Robert Thurmond, who preceded him in death. He leaves behind three nephews, Derrick Thurmond of Blessing, TX, Robert Thurmond of El Maton, TX and Christopher Walls of Bay City, TX, two nieces Candace Davis of Monticello, UT and Kimberly Walls of Sweeny, TX, three great nephews and three great nieces.

He was raised in Iago on the family farm and graduated from Boling High School. Throughout the years he stayed in contact with his high school friends, who were very important to him.

Mr. Thurmond resided throughout his life in Iago, Wharton, Bay City, Brazoria and West Columbia.

Visitation will be held at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, TX on Thursday, April 18, 2013, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Graveside service will be 11:00 AM Friday, April 19, 2013, at Caraway Cemetery in Nixon, Texas.
