Obituary

Peggy Janice Watkins Henderson, 83, was born November 17, 1930 and slipped peacefully from this life into glorious eternity on June 19, 2014. Peggy was born and raised in Bay City, Texas, graduating from Bay City High School in 1948. She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Elloise Watkins, her sister JoAnne Watkins Hulgan and her beloved son, Loren Frank Henderson, Jr.

Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 65 ½ years, Loren Frank Henderson, Sr.; son Lloyd Harold Henderson and wife Theresa (children: Lori, Heather and Angela); daughter Cindy Henderson Diener and husband Erich (children: Elizabeth and Nathan), and daughter-in-law Nancy Blakely Henderson (son: Matthew Scott Henderson, Sr.) She also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren. Peggy joyfully answered to the name of Memaw, Gran and Mock, depending on which generation was doing the calling. She was the Chinese Checker Queen, the first person to indulge them in ice cream, their first lesson that anything is possible and the person they could always turn to for a smile and a hug.

Peggy was a joy to all who crossed her path and she was admired by many. Although she never realized the number of lives she actually touched, she was a true inspiration to those who knew her. Her dedication to community and family was fueled by her desire to set the same standards for herself that she expected in others. Her standards for excellence were present in her award-winning quilts, her famous pies and cakes, her leadership in various clubs and organizations and the area she took the most pride in: the success of her children and grandchildren. She left behind a quoted note on a piece of paper that read: "You don't get to choose how you're going to die or when. You can only decide how you're going to live."

Visitation will be from 5-7pm, Sunday June 22, 2014 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10:00am Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Jared Stillions officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
