Obituary

Patti Kay McKelvy, born November 29, 1958, in Bay City, Texas, passed away at her home on August 26, 2025, at the age of 66. She was the beloved daughter of Clifton Vernon and Mary Edith McKelvy and the third of their children. Patti's life was a journey marked by compassion, service, laughter, and love, leaving a legacy that will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.

She is survived by her sister, Sherry Lynn McKelvy; her brothers, Clifton Vernon McKelvy Jr. and wife, Lety, and Jay Alan McKelvy and wife, Evyan; her nieces and nephews: Jennifer Harrison, Jessica McClintock and husband, Jason, Mark Adkins II and wife, Jennifer, Mary Slayden and husband, Mitchell, and Tyler McKelvy; her great-nieces Noelle Harrison, Madelyn Slayden, and Mikayla Slayden; her great-nephew Mason Slayden; her great-great-nephew Lyrik Harrison; and many other family members and friends, who adored her.

Patti graduated from Bay City High School with the Class of 1977 and later attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos and The University of Texas at Austin. She went on to work for more than 20 years at her parents' State Farm agency, where she was not only a trusted colleague but also a devoted daughter who treasured that time alongside her mom and dad. She faithfully served her hometown with distinction as a City Council Member of Bay City, including a term as Mayor Pro Tem, and was also a proud member of the Lions Club.

Her heart for service shone most brightly in her decades-long dedication to The Crisis Center in Bay City. Patti gave her time and talents generously, from volunteering at the annual Chicken Fried Steak Dinner fundraiser to serving on the Board of Directors from 2020 to 2025. She held the roles of President and Secretary and contributed to nearly every committee, from Budget to Long-Range Planning. Patti was known as a steady leader who leaned into challenges with grace, asked tough but necessary questions, and always kept her focus on what mattered most: the safety, dignity, and healing of survivors. Her commitment was never just words, it was action. Patti was woven into the very fabric of the Crisis Center, a constant source of encouragement, guidance, and support for staff, volunteers, and clients alike.

Outside of her service, Patti lived a life full of laughter and joy. She loved swimming, fishing, and attending sporting events, and she especially cherished time with her family. She adored her dogs: Tuvak, Boone, Max, and GW, which brought her endless love and companionship. She and her mother, Mary, shared many adventures together, from shopping days to their trips to the Beau Rivage Casino in Mississippi, where Patti always seemed to have the lucky hand.

Those who knew Patti will remember her heart of gold, her generous spirit, and her ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. She gave of herself fully to her family, her community, and her causes, never seeking recognition, but leaving behind a legacy of kindness, leadership, and love.
