Rogers Patrick “Pat” McLeod went home to be with Jesus on October 25, 2026 in Sweeny, TX. He was born on January 28, 1937 in Augusta, TX to Leonard Thomas McLeod and Emma Robbins McLeod. He was welcomed to Heaven by the love of his life, Jean McLeod, whom he married on November 26, 1959 and who preceded him in death in 2016.

Pat attended school in Boling, TX, graduating in 1955, and was a lifelong proud Bulldog. He attended Wharton County Junior College for two years where he met his beloved bride. He earned his teaching degree from Sam Houston University in 1958. He taught Government, English, and History at Van Vleck ISD for 30 years where was much loved as “Mr. Mac” and thought of all of the students as “his kids”.

Pat published 5 books of poetry and used the profits to award scholarships high school graduates for the past 10 years. He was named Honorary Poet Laureate of Bay City in 2023. He was a joke teller, family historian, collector of antiques, and loved to travel. Pat and Jean visited all 48 of the continental US states.

Pat was the proud father of and is survived by Patsy Jones (Michael), David McLeod (Wendy), Molly Mirll, and Emily Sawyer (Mark). Also left to carry on his legacy are grandchildren Michael Payne, Michael Barnett (Bonnie), Tiffany Peters (John), Joshua Barnett (Meghan), Jeanette Mirll, JD McLeod (Heather), Ashley Barnett, Teresa Mirll, Daphne Mirll and great grandchildren Madisyn Payne, Jaxon Peters, Carmen Cisneros, Kinsey Payne, Kaden Peters, Cason Barnett, Maverick McLeod, Peter Kropf, Mackenzie McLeod. He will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Pat was preceded in death by his wife and parents as well as 11 siblings of whom he was the baby, Novelle, Frances, Willa, Mamie, Colita, LT Jr., Cordele, Mack, Bobby, and 2 others that passed in infancy. He as also proceeded by his son-in-law, Terry Mirll.

Services will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026 at Holy Cross Catholic Church of Bay City with visitation at 9am, Rosary at 9:30, and Funeral Mass at 10am. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Michael Barnett, Joshua Barnett, John Peters, JD McLeod, Coby Bolton, Blake Bolton. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Jahnsen, Jeff Dommenge, Robert Kilbride , Jaxon Peters , Kaden Peters, Cason Barnett.

Pat requested that any monetary donations in his honor be made to the Holy Cross school or choir.
