Opal Idella Walker Oates, 90, a long-time resident of Bay City, went to be with her Lord shortly after noon on Mother's Day, May 8, 2011, in Houston, Texas.
Opal was born on February 25,1921 in Atasca, Texas, to parents James Mitchell and Pearly Head Walker.
She was a long-time beautician in Bay City and owned and operated the Lady Gay Beauty Shop for years.
She was also a member of The Eastern Star.
She leaves behind many friends and acquaintances and will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 43 years, Carl Henry Oates.
She is survived by: a daughter and her husband, Theresa and Bob Lucas of Seguin, Texas; a grandson and his wife, Troy Carl and Wendy Smith of New Albany, Indiana; and a great-grand daughter, Madison Faith Smith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at the First Christian Church of Bay City with the Reverend Tom Quirck and Brother Bob Lucas officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.
