After a brief hospital stay, Opal Walter Teagle Carradine died at her home on Sunday, March 3, 2013. She was 97 years old.
Opal was born December 10, 1915 to George and Lena Phillips Teagle. She grew up in Kirk, Texas, a community which no longer exists. But, like many of us, she always thought fondly of her hometown, and talked of returning.
She married William R Carradine in 1939. They lived in several Texas cities, then came to Bay City about 70 years ago. Opal has been here since. William (Bill), an employee of the City, died in 1974.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and three brothers. She was the last of her generation on both sides of the family.
She is survived by three children, William Jr. and wife Julia of Austin, Elaine Booker of Irving, and Robert of Bay City. Most of her life was spent taking excellent care of Robert. She worked tirelessly to provide for him as best she knew how. Also, two grandchildren, Paul Carradine of Houston, and Cassie Carradine of Austin.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Cedarvale Cemetery.
