Olegario Vargas, Jr., 58, of Palacios passed away Nov. 18, 2009. He was born Feb. 23, 1951 in Palacios, TX to Olegario Vargas, Sr. & Margaret Hernandez Vargas. He was a structural welder and had served his country in the US Army.

His father and sisters Delia Topp and Rose Garcia preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Otilia Sainz Vargas of Palacios; mother Margaret Vargas of Palacios; daughters Christina Lambert & husband Adolfo of San Antonio & Vanessa McRae & husband Ryan of Palacios; sons Ollie Vargas III & wife Melissa of Palacios; sisters Bertha Ann Vargas of Minnesota, Irene Coy & husband Eugene of Austin, Esther Ambrogio & husband Doug of New Jersey & Margie Simpson & husband Blake of Ft. Worth; brothers Mark Vargas & wife Rebecca of Florida & Steve Vargas & wife Marie of Palacios; and grandchildren Adolfo Lambert III, Juliett Lambert, Paola Lambert, Dylan Brune, Kimberly, Ryan, Chance, & Chaze McRae and Kammie Jo & Seth Vargas.

A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at the Palacios Funeral Home. Mass will be 10:00 AM Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dowomoh officiating. Interment will follow at the Palacios Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ollie Vargas, III, Michael Vargas, Mark Vargas, Jr., Barney Aparicio, Steve Vargas, Jr., Ben Vargas, Eugene Coy and Mario Vargas. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mark Vargas, Sr., Steve Vargas, Sr., Ryan McRae, Jr., Dylan Brune, Adolfo Lambert III, Chance McRae, Chaze McRae & Seth Vargas.
