O.B. Stanley, 92, of Bay City passed away Thursday April 17, 2008. He was born August 28, 1915 in Freeport To the late Joseph Carlton Stanley and Pearl Inez Wicker. Mr. Stanley has been a long time resident of Matagorda County, a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Matagorda,. He served on Bay City City Council two different terms: 1955 – 1961 and 1964 – 1976. During time on City Council he also served as Mayor Pro Tem. He served on the Bay City Gas Company Board of Trustees from 1995 – 2006. He was a major stockholder in Stanley Stores, Inc. which operated as many as thirty-three grocery stores in Teas and Louisiana, starting with one small drive-in grocery store in Bay City.

He is survived by his wife: Neva Stanley of Bay City; son: Stephen Stanley of Bay City; Grandchildren: Bart Stanley and Susan Stanley Faciane & husband Kevin; Great Grandchildren: Samantha Stanley Durham & husband Dustin, Sawyer Stanley, Sommer Stanley, Courtney Faciane and Kristin Faciane; Great-Great Granddaughter: Kainlyn Durham; Sister-in-law: Sarah "Bebe" Stanley; and Dear and close friend: E.M. Huitt, Jr.. Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; first wife: Anna Beth Johnson Stanley; son: Fredrick "Fred" Carl Stanley; sister: Pauline Cameron; and 3 brothers: Thorning, Scottie, and J.C. Stanley.

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, April 20, 2008 at The Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda with Rev. Harley Savage & Rev. Lawrence Gwin officiating. Interment will follow at Matagorda Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Luis Noe Jaramillo, Ben D. Mainka, Jerry Wright, John Ashcraft, Stewart Savage and Rik Stanley. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank D. Rickman, David PeVey and Dustin Peterson. Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda, Texas.
