Norman Cook Baumgart, 81, of Bay City passed away February 21, 2013. He was born January 12, 1932 in Independence, Texas to the late Otto Ernest Baumgart, Jr. and Walter Berry Smith Baumgart. He lived in Bay City for 62 years and worked as a Telephone Switchman/Toll Repeaterman for Southwestern Bell.
Norman loved his children and his family. Some of his favorite things were raising vegetables in his gardens, raising his cattle and hogs, drinking his coffee by the swinging tree while talking to his mocking birds and seeing his friends at various places in the town he loved.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gussie Mae Baumgart in 2007. Survivors include daughters Candace Jane Ibbotson and Christina Marie Baumgart Meyers; son Charles Bryan Baumgart; grandchildren Jacob Daniel Meyers, Rebecca Marie Meyers, Angela Michelle Childers, Timothy Scott Ibbotson and Patrick William Ibbotson.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Msgr. Gerry Cernoch officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Pat Jurek, Allen Baker, Ronnie Meyers, Roger Manteuful, Jacob Meyers and David Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Baumgart, Timothy Scott Ibbotson, Patrick William Ibbotson and all of his coffee-drinking buddies from McDonald's.
