Obituary

Netina Jenkins Young, 82, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2015 in Sherman, Texas. She was born as Netina Jenkins on March 26, 1933 in Collegeport, Texas, to Inez and Joe Frank Jenkins Sr.

Netina grew up on a farm in Collegeport with 2 older brothers and 3 younger sisters, where she learned to care for farm animals, to grow vegetables and pick corn and cotton, and also cooking and canning skills. As a young girl, she competed and won as the county's 4-H Gold Star Girl. From 1950 to 1975, she was married to Alvie Neal Wilkinson, and they resided in Bay City, Austin and Houston, Texas. She continued working hard as an adult – first at the Southwestern Bell Phone Company, then for the County Clerk's office for Matagorda County, and at Memorial City Hospital in Houston starting in 1971 when the hospital first opened, and where she served for many years as business office manager. She was married to Chester Young from 1982 until his death in 2007, and they resided in Houston and Huntsville, Texas. Following Chester's death, she resided with her daughter Sandra, in Sherman, Texas.

Netina had a life-long passion for sewing and quilting, and sewed clothes for her young kids. After retiring, she was happy to have time again to sew, and to make many quilts and blankets for her children and grandchildren. She was known as "Nina" to all her grandchildren, and loved to play games with them and give them her special back rubs.

Most importantly, Netina lived a life that reflected her love for God and for her family. Her family remembers her starting every day with her Bible and a cup of coffee, and taking the time to pray with them for the needs in their lives. For the last few years of her life, she was a member of Truth Church in in Denison, Texas. She taught us by example how to love God. She will be greatly missed – until we see her again in Heaven.

Netina is preceded in death by her husband Chester Young, her parents, Inez and Joe Frank Jenkins Sr., older brothers Joe Frank Jenkins Jr. and Tommy Lawrence Jenkins, younger sister Jimmie Sue Clayton, and great granddaughter Waverly Grace Martin. She is survived by her younger sisters Thelma Nell (& George) Agnew and Ann (Jenkins) Reynolds, brother-in-law James (& Joyce) Clayton, sisters-in-law Venus (& Tom) Randolph and Dorothy (Jenkins) Krutilek, and by her 3 children: Sandra Phillips, W. T. Wilkinson, and Tim (and Peggy) Wilkinson, plus 6 grandchildren: Jennifer (& Jason) Vickers, Jill Phillips, Julie (& Matt) Burke, Ashley (& Chuck) Martin, Logan (& Taylor) Wilkinson, and Tyler Wilkinson, plus 7 great-grandchildren: Morgan Taylor, Macy Vickers, Emersyn Vickers, Carsyn Burke, Wrenly Martin, Evelyn Wilkinson and Stella Wilkinson. She is also survived by step-sons Rick Young and Brian Young, and their children and grandchildren, plus the family of Larry Young – and by many other loved ones in the Jenkins, Wilkinson and Young families.

The family will receive visitors beginning at 9:00am Thursday, December 24, 2015 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10:00am, following visitation, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers are Logan Wilkinson, Tyler Wilkinson, Jason Vickers, Matt Burke, John Agnew and Steve Clayton.
