IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Neoma Larue
Allen
August 12, 1928 – August 14, 2020
Neoma LaRue Collins Allen passed away on August 14, 2020 at the age of 92 after suffering a stroke.
Neoma was born on August 12, 1928 in the community of Rochester, Texas located in Haskell County.
She was the only child of Versie Irene Roach Collins and Earl Edward Collins. At age 2, she and her family moved to Jonesboro, Texas which she considered to be her childhood home. Her father worked in nearby Gatesville at the Boy's Reform School. When she was 16, the family moved to Corsicana, Texas where both parents were employed by the State Orphan Home.
Neoma graduated from Corsicana High at age 16. At age 20, she graduated from North Texas University, where she met her future husband, Jehu Wesley Allen. Neoma and Jake were married in 1950. That year, they settled in Corsicana, and began 69 years of marriage until Jake's passing in 2018. Also in 1950, they both began a dedicated teaching career in the Barry community. Neoma continued to teach in the Corsicana area until her retirement in 1987. She moved to Bay City, Texas in 2018 to be near family.
Neoma and Jake led an exemplary and wonderful life in Corsicana. Both were longtime members of The First United Methodist Church, where they were active in various church ministries. Whether participating in Sunday school, preparing food for those in need, or decorating the sanctuary for Christmas, they were faithfully committed to the Church's mission.
Neoma and Jake cherished their life together at their home on Park Avenue. They worked tirelessly to create a beautiful yard, garden, and overall sanctuary for themselves and their beloved pets. The ten years that Neoma's mother lived with them was a very special time. Neoma was keenly aware of all "goings on" in the neighborhood. Through community, church, school and family the Allens developed many friendships, but few were more important to them than their neighbors.
Neoma was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Jake. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins. "Nomi" will be missed and fondly remembered by family, friends, and former students for her loyalty, faithfulness and dedication. Her family wishes to thank Jake's niece, Diana Shindler, and her family for the attentive care and love shown Neoma since Jake's death.
A graveside burial will be held at the Jonesboro Cemetery in the fall.
Those wishing to remember Neoma may do so through her church, First United Methodist Church, 320 N. 15th Street, Corsicana, TX 75110 or Project Paws, P.O. Box 407, Corsicana, TX. 75151.
