Myrtle Naomi Jensen, 90, who always preferred Naomi, passed away Wednesday November 18, 2009 in Alvin, Texas. She was born Nov. 10, 1910 in Olivia Community, Calhoun County, Texas to the late Joseph Johnston Savage and Cora Maud Hart Savage, the seventh of eight children. She was a wife, mother, bookkeeper, gardener, ranch hand, or other, as required. She did whatever she could to help her family and friends.

She married Delbert Bernard (Boonie) Jensen on June 26, 1943 in Alice, Texas. They raised two sons and many cattle on Turtle Bay, west of Palacios. They were members of the First Baptist Church of Palacios and were married for more than 50 years before Boonie died in November 1993. Naomi continued to live alone on Turtle Bay for another five years before moving to Alvin to be near her family in 1998. In late 2000 she went into a nursing home where she lived until her death.
She worked as a nurse at Bayview Hospital, the Wilcox Clinic, and Wagner General Hospital in Palacios. Many babies were delivered on her shift from 11 p.m.-8 a.m.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Bernard H. and Karen L. Jensen of Alvin, and Frank A. (Andy) and Charlotte R. Jensen of Alvin, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters Isabel, Lela, Hayden, Maudin and Jewell; and brothers Joseph Young (Jack) and Houston.

The family will receive visitors from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios. The Funeral will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM at the church with Rev. Hollas Hoffman officiating. Internment will be at Palacios Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Bruce Herlin, Richard Sanders Jr., Phillip Richman, Gary Chamblee and grandsons Ray Jensen and Mike Jensen
