Myrtle Mary Burke Manna, 89, of Bay City passed away March 24, 2010. She was born July 31, 1920 in Baytown, TX to the late Advia John and Rita Evans Burke. She grew up in Humble, TX where she graduated from High School and was very active in sports.
She worked as one of the first female welders at the Houston Ship Channel. It was love at first sight when she met Ludvik Manna from Sealy, TX. Myrtle & Ludvik were married Aug. 1, 1941 in Humble, TX at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They spent most of their lives together in Bay City and were members of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Her sisters Elva DeSonier and Billie Renfro and brother A. J. Burke, Jr., Jack Burke and Gerald Burke all preceded her in death. Survivors include husband Ludvik Manna of Bay City; daughter Sydonia Winters of Bay City; son Richard Manna & wife Kay of Helotes, TX; sister Dorothy Slaughter of Humble, TX; granddaughters Stacy Winters of Sealy & Constance Winters Cunningham of Bay City; great granddaughter Brittainy Helton of Bay City and great grandsons Brandon & Brian Gavranovic of Bay City as well as many nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Friday, March 26, 2010 at Bay City Funeral Home. Mass will be 10:00 AM Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Derek Einkauf, Dennis Einkauf, David Gingles, George Manna, Kenny Kacal, and Dwayne Dibbern.
Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
