Muriel worked as "Rosey the Riveter" in New Orleans during WWII, owned a restaurant in Burbank, California, and retired after 18 years at Eastern Airlines in 1975 as a Reservation Receptionist. She bought some of the first lots in Live Oak Bend in 1969 and became a full time resident of Sargent in 1975. She was involved in many organizations in Sargent for over 30 years including VFW #2412 Sargent Homemakers & Lioness, Sargent Chamber of Commerce, Keep Texas Beautiful, Sargent Crime Watch, 1st recycling program in Sargent. She was an active supporter in most of the community improvement projects during the last 2 decades in our Sargent Area including the Sargent Revetment Wall. She also supported the Commercial Seafood industry and our Caney Creek and East Matagorda Bay environmental issues and was our news "watchdog" when she could no longer drive and hit the highways! Muriel was Sargents' "Avon Lady" for over 20 years and enjoyed visiting with many friends and clients with her famous "Avon Calling" at their front doors! She was a master at beautiful embroidery and enjoyed painting as well as poetry in her younger years. She also was an "Ace" at crossword puzzles and could challenge the best in almost any games…your choice!

Muriel saw many changes throughout her lifetime and always had an open door at her home for friends and neighbors to drop in and visit to share her life tales and listen to theirs. She was compassionate and giving and a loyal Democrat to the end! She was always in the forefront for Democratic Candidates, involved in fundraising and was a volunteer and offered many hours of support for our local candidates in many capacities.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10:00 am Monday, December 22, 2008 at Taylor Bros. She will be missed by her daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends. She was one of a kind & she fit the quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson when he said "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail". May she greet the guardian angel she knew she had…
