Obituary

Minnie Pauline (Polly) Lukefahr formerly from Bay City, Texas passed away peacefully on June 9, 2020. Polly was born June 2, 1930 in Midfield, Texas to Nellie and Lewis Nygard, Sr.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold Lukefahr, son Dennis Lukefahr, and her three siblings, Nellie Nygard Cornelius, Lewis Nygard Jr, and Peggy Nygard Harrison.

Polly met Harold, her one and only, the love of her life, on a blind date. They were married August 14, 1950 at Harold's family home in Bay City.  For 63 years, until Harold's death, they were inseparable, finding joy in each other, their children and the life they built together.

Polly's life was full; she was as an excellent seamstress making her daughters' clothing, dance costumes, formal gowns, and wedding dresses.  She was involved with her children's lives by volunteering for their school, church, and 4-H activities.  At social events, she often encouraged her somewhat introverted children to "mingle" and that became a family joke!  When Polly moved to Bryan, Texas her children often teased her that she needed to mingle more which always made her laugh! Polly enjoyed competitive activities, starting with learning how to play "42" at age 10 so that she could play with her parents and their friends when they needed another player.  She played "42" until her later life and was known as an excellent player.  Everyone loved to be her partner but Harold was always her first choice.  She also was a competitive bowler, winning several city bowling tournaments when she was younger.

Polly and Harold enjoyed hosting reunions for family and friends, dancing, traveling, and having friends and family over to help harvest their grapes.  All who knew Polly will remember her smile, charm, creativity and willingness to help others.

Polly is survived by her daughters, Cindy Skinner (David) and Cathy Willis (Rick).  Also, grandchildren John Skinner (Katie), Shana Elliott (Chad), Luke Skinner (Jessica), Aaron Willis (Mary McClain), and Zach Willis (Anne Mason Long). Great-grandchildren Annabelle and Andie Elliott, Caleb and Mikayla Skinner, and Owen McClain-Willis.  Sisters-in-law, Teresa Lezak and Charlsie Nygard, and brothers-in-law, Billy Parks and Travis Harrison.

Pallbearers for Polly are John Skinner, Chad Elliott, Shana Elliott, Luke Skinner, Rick Willis, and Billy Parks. Honorary Pallbearers are Aaron Willis and Zachary Willis.

Services for Polly will be held privately.
