Obituary

Willie "Milton" Ledwig, 77, passed away December 24, 2024. He was born August 26, 1947, in Bay City, TX to the late Frank Phillip Ledwig and Julia Hahn Ledwig.

Daddy attended school, finishing the 8th grade. He then quit school to join his parents and siblings to help support the family with farming. He married Cynthia Hutchinson in 1967, and they lived in Baton Rouge, LA, where he worked at Delta Southern until relocating to Bay City in 1972. Once back in Texas, he was able to return to farming, which was his greatest love of work. He worked for/with family to farm rice, cotton, soybeans, corn, and milo for several years. For a brief time, he tried to leave farming again and worked for Ebasco at the South Texas Nuclear Project (STP). It wasn't long though before he left STP to return to the fields. He remained a southern farmer at heart and character. He was most happy being productive, working with his hands, and was always a hard worker. His later years were challenging to him when his body forced him to slow down.

Daddy was the baby of 12 kids, and that was just the way he liked it! Daddy was happiest when he was a "part" of something, and being part of a big family is what he knew best. Staying in touch with one another was always important to him. He never wanted to be left out or forgotten. Daddy, we could never forget you. Daddy loved his chicken and red dumplings and homemade noodle soup, especially on a Sunday when watching his Dallas Cowboys (especially if they were winning). He enjoyed being with his children and family. We will miss him greatly.

Milton is survived by his daughter Lisa Baker (John) of Lake Jackson, son Jamie Ledwig of Bay City, daughters Sara Ledwig (Johnny) and Tara Kopecky (Adam) of Bay City; sisters Bernice Davis and Elizabeth Mariner of Bay City; brothers Henry Ledwig of Ganado and Joe Ledwig of Erath, LA; grandchildren Dylan Ledwig, Cameron Rodriguez, Hannah Kopecky, Chloe Rodriguez, Kaelyn Kopecky, Kieran Ledwig and Langdon Ledwig; and numerous nieces and nephews. Milton is also survived by his 4-legged partner in crime, Chew-Chew, given to him as a puppy rescued from the SPCA. Milton is preceded in death by his former wife Cynthia, his parents, sister Margaret Meador, and brothers Mike, Alois, Leo, Stanley, Ignatz "Joe", and Julius.
