IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Dewayne
Stone
December 8, 1946 – December 13, 2024
Micheal Dewayne Stone, 78, of Bay City, Texas passed away surrounded by his family on December 13, 2024. He was born December 8, 1946, on Petit Jean Mountain in Arkansas to the late O.C. and Celestia Stone.
Mike started his career working alongside his father and brothers in the produce business. This is where his lifelong love of truck driving began, he was always ready to jump in the driver's seat, even until his health told him otherwise. Ruben Lopez can attest to this, having worked for Mike over 20 years and like family, he can tell many stories of Mike's get it done spirit, like when he took out electrical lines moving a cotton picker because no one else would!
Moving to Bay City, Texas from Arkansas in 1970, Mike started his endeavor in the sod business, he quickly moved from cutting in pastures to operating his own farms. For over 50 years he sold grass all over Texas and other states.
Lacey Sparks was his longtime assistant, he thought of her as family, and she kept him on track. Buying and selling was another passion of his, he never missed an auction and true to his roots he always came out on top with whatever crazy thing he bought and sold.
Mike's hobbies included hunting and fishing, he spent many days on the water and nights in the woods, Phillip Surls was his best hunting buddy. On the way to his beloved home state of Arkansas, he always made the detour through Louisiana for a stop at the casino. He was proud of his Arkansas roots and loved visiting family there, always attending the homecoming every May on the Mountain. His family meant the world to him and his love for them, especially his grandchildren, was immense. Mike believed in helping people be their best and would never hesitate to helpanyone in need without judgement and with a big heart, he blessed many people.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Sonny Stone, Darrell "Shorty" Stone and Don E Stone, and sister Doris Stone Clifton.
Left with his legacy of love are his wife Vicky Thompson Stone; daughter Misty Stone; son Brian Stone and wife Jenna; son Shawn Stone; brother Mark Stone (Dianne) and grandchildren Rylan, Reid and Adley Stone, and Samantha Stone.
