Obituary

On Monday, January 15, 2024, Maybell Evans, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 84. Maybell Evans was born on September 17, 1939 in Mankin, Texas. Maybell attended Sweeny High School and met the love of her life, Jerriel L. Evans, from West Columbia, Texas. They were married in 1957 and continued their life with a move to San Antonio, Texas where she supported her husband in his career and welcomed three children.

After ten years, J.L. and Maybell moved their young family to Bay City, Texas to pursue his dream of starting his own business, Evans Oil Company.  Maybell worked alongside her husband for years as Evans Oil Company grew to become Evans Systems, Inc.

After retiring from Evans Systems, Inc in 2002, Maybell and J.L, focused their attention to the family cattle business, Triple E Farm & Ranch. Along with their business successes, Maybell would often say that what she valued most was family. Maybell was blessed with three children, eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Maybell is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, J.L Evans, her parents, J.T Henley, Willard and Vivian Hobbins and her brother James Hobbins.

Maybell is survived by her children, daughter Darlene and son-in-law Brian Jones, her sons, Jerry Evans and daughter-in-law Kelly, and Terry Evans and daughter-in-law Candiss. Grandchildren: Matthew Jones and wife Whitney, Katherine Sewell and husband Kody, Stephanie Evans, Jonathan Evans and wife Bianca, Rachel Riley, Dane Evans and wife Shawyn, Madison Evans and Austin Evans. Great-grandchildren: Meredith and Kaitlyn Jones, Kaden and Karoline Sewell, Christian and Sophia Zuniga, Klara, Harper and Rhett Evans, Arya Chambliss, and Railee Guillot. Maybell is also survived by her sister, Sandra Hoots and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Maybell's caregivers. Celeste Cortez, Ashley Ramirez and Rose Hernandez. Their support and care provided to our mother these last few years has been instrumental in the quality of life that she has had. We would also like to extend our special thanks to Dr. Fabricio Zuniga and all the staff with Angels Hospice.

The family will receive friends and relatives at 9:00 am Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Nichols Street Church of Christ. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am, with Matt Springfield officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Matthew Jones, Dane Evans, Kody Sewell, Austin Evans, Jonathan Evans and Robert Ging.
