IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maura Rebecca
Ludwig
September 29, 1948 – August 24, 2024
Maura Rebecca Ludwig was born on September 29, 1948, in Wharton, Texas, to Arland and Geneva Mason. She passed away in her home on August 24, 2024. She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Allen Ludwig; beloved son, Christian Jon Ludwig, and his wife, Linda; and cherished grandsons, Louis and Oliver. She was preceded in death by her father, Arland Ray Mason; mother, Geneva Gaylor Mason; and sister, Linda Carol Talas.
Maura spent a wonderful and active childhood surrounded by lifelong friends in Angleton, Texas. After completing driver's education in the 8th grade, Maura could be seen cruising to Dairyland, Surfside beach, football games, and shopping trips to Houston. She was a star basketball and volleyball player, a National Honor Society student, and a fashion trendsetter.
After graduating high school, Maura attended Lamar University, where she received her Bachelor's and Master of Arts in English. While attending Lamar University, she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. During that time, she met and fell in love with the man she would commit the rest of her life to, Mark Allen Ludwig.
After receiving her degrees, Maura dedicated her life to teaching and spent an illustrious career developing young minds in Baytown and Bay City, Texas. She was recognized during her career for her many achievements, including being named Bay City High School's Teacher of the Year for her excellence in education.
Bay City was more than just a place where she lived; it was her true home. She was known in her circle for her loyalty, trustworthiness, and love. In return, there are no words to describe what her friends meant to her heart and spirit – they were the family she chose every day. Maura grew her friendships from those she met in the Junior Service League of Bay City, book club, various bridge groups, Bay City Women's Golf Association, Bay City High School, and St. Mark's Episcopal Church, among other places.
Maura's star shined the brightest when she talked about her marriage to Mark and the wonderful life they gave each other, her "sweet boy" Chris, and her precious grandsons, Louis and Oliver. In addition to the memories she created with her family, she is also leaving them with her eternal love, grace, and heart. She will be missed.
