Mary Francis Barrett Smith, 70, of Palacios passed away December 7, 2013. She was born September 25, 1943 in Beaumont, TX to the late Fred Francis Barrett and Mary A. Burrell Barrett. She worked for many years as a dispatcher for the Palacios Police Department and as a jailer for the Matagorda County Sheriff's office.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Kenneth V. Smith; daughters Kendra Smith of Birmingham, AL & Kayla Stein & husband Ford of Columbus, TX; son Kenny Smith & wife Norma of Rosharon, TX; grandchildren Justin Losoya, Ashley Kocian, Brittany Shine, Bethany Shine, Matthew Smith, Kristen Smith, Karen Delagarza and Marissa Smith and great grandchildren Nathan Losoya, Maysen Nicole Kocian and Kole William Kaley. She enjoyed crafts and traveling, but her grandchildren were her life.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm until 7pm Monday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Webb officiating. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stuart Kocian, Justin Losoya, Cameron Kaley, Matthew Smith, John Willy and Curtis Leroy Smith. Dickie Lang will serve as honorary pallbearer.
