Obituary

Mary Kay Porter, 80, of Bay City, Texas, passed away on September 20, 2025.

Mary Kay was born to Kirk and Mildred Dyson and was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Donald Porter. She is survived by her son, Phil Holt, and daughter-in-law, Joanna Holt; her grandson, Brandon Holt and his wife, Meg; her great-grandson, Matthew Holt; and her devoted caregiver, Casey Watkins.

A proud graduate of Farmersville High School, Mary Kay went on to earn her bachelor's degree in 1968 and her master's degree in English and business education in 1971 from East Texas State University. She dedicated 39 years of her life to teaching, serving as an honors English teacher in multiple school districts, including Honey Grove High School, Winnsboro High School, Van Vleck High School, Palacios High School, Wharton High School, and Houston ISD.

Her exceptional commitment to education was recognized in 1991 when she was honored as the Secondary Teacher of the Year for Region III. She touched the lives of countless students with her passion for literature, dedication to excellence, and unwavering encouragement.

Beyond her career, Mary Kay found joy in reading, watching TV, and spending time with her beloved cat, Kitty Boo. A lifetime Baptist, she was a faithful church member and attended regularly until her health prevented her from doing so.
