Marvin Ray Harris, 79, of Bay City passed away April 12, 2016. He was born March 17, 1937 in Smith County, Texas to the late Jesse Lee Harris and Mattie Meadows Harris. He worked for Harris County Sheriff's Department from 1972-1973 and Assistant Chief of Police of Nassau Bay Police Department from 1973-1977 in the Houston, Texas area. He attended Wharton County Junior College 1988-1989 receiving an Auto Technology degree and then attended the University of Houston in 1990. Marvin worked security at STP from 1993-1999. He was a Bay City ISD-Transportation Driver from 2002-2011 worked for Victoria Golden Crescent Transportation from 2011-2016.
Marvin had a strong faith and love of God and was trustee at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Bay City. His interests were music, photography and computers. He wrote songs and poetry and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 31 years, Bettye J. McElroy Harris. He is also survived by his daughter Debra Ann Baker and grandson Charles of North Carolina; sister Ann Sitton of Lindale, Texas and 2 nephews. Other survivors include stepsons Barry Bowden and wife Melanie of North Carolina, and Craig and Steve Bowden of San Antonio; stepdaughter Diane Morris and husband Alan of Sierra Vista, Arizona; sister-in-law Phebe L. Alford of Temple, Texas and her son Emery of Florida; 2 nieces; 9 step-grandchildren and 1 great grandson. Marvin is preceded in death by son Duane Harris; 2 brothers; 2 sisters and step-daughter Pam Bowden.
Memorial services will be held 11:00am Saturday, April 23, 2016 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Bay City with Rev. Bill Ramsey officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 3102 Fifth St., Bay City, TX 77414.
