On August 12, 2009 our loving mother, Martha Susan Flint Payne, 84, of Lake Jackson, Texas peacefully left this world to be with the Lord. Martha served her community as a Pink Lady volunteer and her beloved church through faithfully membership and active participation in the Christian Women's Fellowship.
She was born October 23, 1924, in Talcott, West Virginia, to Wilbur B. Flint and Elsie M. Richardson. She was formerly a resident of Bay City and Alvin, and was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Lake Jackson, Texas.
She was survived by two daughters, Elsie Givens and husband Wayne of Brazoria, Texas, Deloris Schaefer and husband Harvey of Alvin, Texas; two stepdaughters, Connie Magford of Hunt, Texas and Kay Wells of Texas City; son, Jerry Lee Payne of Brazoria, Texas; two sisters, Hilda Hasley of Blessing, Texas, Ora Mae Lemons of Fredericksburg, Virginia; 12 grandchildren ; and numerous great grandchildren.
Martha was the most magnificent wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend that anyone could have ever wanted in a lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald V. Payne; parents, Wilbur and Elsie Flint; sister,Velma Meadows; five brothers, Harold, Austin, Woodrow, Ernest, and Mason Flint.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009, at the Hawley Cemetery, Blessing, Texas.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Wisofsky, Harvey Lee Schaefer, Matthew Schaefer, Jerry Lee Payne, Jr.and Mike Pickrel.
A Celebration of Life service for Martha will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009, at the First Christian Church in Lake Jackson, Texas, with the Rev. Cynthia Myers officiating.
The family wishes to express gratitude and appreciation for the love and support of family and friends.
A "special thanks" to the staff of Village on the Creek in Clute, Texas, who cared for her. Also a special thanks to A-Med Community Hospice staff, especially Sandra.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Christian Church, 503 Oyster Creek, Lake Jackson, Texas.
