Martha Laurine Farned, 86, of Bay City passed away Jan. 15, 2009. She was born Sept. 20, 1922 in Kingsville, TX to the late Robert Campbell Burt, Sr. & Della Lee Watson Burt and grew up in Sweeny, TX. She worked for Garrison Telephone Company in Sweeny and later for Southwestern Bell in Bay City. After her marriage and first child, she left Southwestern Bell to devote her time to being a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed baking, sewing, quilting and crocheting.

Survivors include her sister Lillie Jo Sweeny of Bay City; two sons James Farned & wife Kim of Houston and David Farned & wife Patricia of Bay City as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband John W. Farned; brothers Arthur Lee Burt, Robert Campbell Burt, Jr. and Johnnie Orville Burt and sister Mary Burt Meadors.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Pat Mathis, David Carroll, Mike Taylor, Paul Richard, Paul Hanna and Robert Brem.

The family extends a special Thank You to the nurses and staff at Matagorda House and to the staff of Houston Hospice-El Campo.
