Maria Luisa Huerta, 83, of Van Vleck, passed away August 30, 2016. She was born September 12, 1932 in Goliad, TX to the late Jose Maria and Lucas Sanchez Mireles.

Maria worked as a custodian for many years for the Van Vleck Independent School District before retiring. She was also a long time member of Peace Tabernacle Church in Wharton.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and five brothers. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Luis Huerta, Jr.; daughters Delia Castillo (David), Diana Meyers (Ronnie), Dolia Ramirez (Joe), Susie Huerta and Mercedes Hernandez (Ygnacio); son Louis Huerta III (Jenny); sister Irene Estraca; brother Reynaldo Mireles; 18 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 4:00-6:00pm Saturday, September 3 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A prayer service will take place 5:00pm that evening. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Peace Tabernacle Church located at 1416 N. Alabama Rd. in Wharton, TX. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers are David Castillo, Jr., Joey Ramirez, Fred Cantu, Jr., Alex Cantu, Mark Castillo and Vincent Borrego. Honorary pallbearers are Kimberly Castillo, Alison Martinez and Olivia Mendoza.
