Maria Luisa Chapa Garcia, 75, of Van Vleck passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021 in Sugar Land, Texas. She was born August 26, 1945 in Mission, Texas.

Maria was a Certified Nurse Assistant for most of her life and truly enjoyed caring for others even before herself. Later, she accepted a position at the Matagorda County Museum Annex where she was fascinated with learning about our town's local history as she worked. But most of all, she lived and cared for her family deeply. Maria was a beautiful expression of 1 Corinthians, in which she embodied patience, kindness, hope and perseverance. She was quick to say yes and her family knew they could always count on her for support, comfort and encouragement despite any circumstance. Instilling in them that their faith in the Lord was the foundation of everything. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by the love and laughter of her family. She will be tremendously missed yet delighted to know that her family remains stronger together during this difficult time.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Armando Garcia; her mother, Felicitas Chapa; and parents, Gertrudes and Alfredo Granados; three sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her children; daughter, Maria del Carmen Perez of Bay City; son, Armando Garcia, Jr. and Merrilee of Van Vleck; daughter, Nancy G. Perez and John of Goliad; daughter, Teresa M. Garcia of Bay City; daughter, Corina L. Self and J.P. of Austin; son, Jose E. Garza and Ashley of Bay City; and daughter, Evita M. Briceños and Rony of Richwood and Elizabeth Rodriguez of Bay City; Sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; sisters Lupe Coronado and Amelia Lopez, and brothers Jesus Granados and Alfredo Granados.

The family will receive friends and relatives at 2:00pm Monday, June 28, 2021 for a graveside committal service at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck with Deacon Luan Van Tran officiating.
