Maria Aguilar, 73, of Bay City passed away April 9, 2008. She was born March 19, 1935 in Cuero, Texas to the late Augustine A. & Manuela Gomez Gauna. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and had been a resident of Bay City since 1965. Also, She worked 18 years for the Economic Action Committee of Gulf Coast.

She was preceded in death by her husband Pedro Aguilar in 1995; daughter Diana Aguilar in 1965; sister Manuela Marez and brothers Beto, Nicanor, Leon & Carlos Gauna. Survivors include daughter Juanita & husband Javier Benavidez of Bay City; sons Fernando G. Aguilar, Sr. & wife Myra of Bay City & Armando G. Aguilar, Sr. & wife Amelia of Blessing; sister Julia Olivarez of Pharr, TX; brothers Augustine Gauna of Corpus Christi, Benito & Felimon Gauna both of Pharr, TX; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and many friends. She is also survived by her provider Frances Mendoza of Danevang & her cousin & caregiver Maria Mendez of Bay City.

A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Friday, April 11, 2008 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Mass will be 2:00 PM Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Gerry Cernoch officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Fernando Aguilar, Jr., Pvt. Armando Aguilar, Jr., Juan Aguilar, Pedro Adan Aguilar, Juan Olivarez & Eugenio Marez. Her sons and son-in-law will be honorary pallbearers.
