MARGERY CAROL ROBINSON SINGER

PALACIOS, TX – Margery Carol Singer, 83, was called home to Heaven on Sunday, March 6, 2022.

Carol was born December 10, 1938, in Cisne, Illinois to the late Margery Ruth Plumb, after whom she was named, and Joseph Charles Plumb. She was also preceded in death by her brother Larry Plumb. Remaining behind to cherish and carry on her memory are her beloved husband Leland; daughter Cheri LaCounte and husband Chris; daughter Deb Williams and husband Forrest; son Lee Singer; daughter Sue Wohlbrandt; grandson Brendan LaCounte and wife Meghan; granddaughter Chrissy Gardner and husband Peter; grandson Cameron Darrah and wife Sadie; plus five great grandchildren; brother Joseph Charles Plumb, Jr. and wife Susan; brother Brad Plumb and wife Karen; sister-in-law Donna Plumb; many beloved nieces and nephews and their children; and many other cherished family and friends.

At sixteen years of age Carol became a student at the University of Kansas, joining KU's Watkins Hall on full scholarship. She graduated KU in 1959 and was thereafter a life-long supporter and volunteer for the University, especially the continuing Watkins Scholarship Hall mission on behalf of young women.

Carol's entire professional life was devoted to the healthy development of young people through education and social emotional support. During her career with Albuquerque Public Schools, Carol completed a Master of Arts degree along with additional post-graduate work at the University of New Mexico. She served the young people of Albuquerque, beginning as a Home Economics classroom teacher, later working as a Middle School and High School Counselor, Assistant District Superintendent, and Director of Instructional Research and Testing. Following her retirement from APS Carol continued working as a consultant, receiving numerous recognitions from the Center for Research on Evaluation Standards and Student Testing (CRESST), American Educational Research Association (AERA), National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME), and the Southwest Regional College Board, among others.

Enjoying the gift of travel, Carol began sailing in the mid-70s, later graduating to a live-aboard power boat. Escorting her mother to The Holy Land or exploring the US or Europe with husband Leland, she cherished meeting and learning about people and cultures. Her genuine warmth and interest in others, consistently offering them her full attention while actively listening to their stories, endeared Carol to many friends both near and far.

Carol served in many volunteer positions for First United Methodist Church in Albuquerque and Palacios, active in both the voice and hand bell choirs. A member of Palacios Alapha Club, a contributor to the Palacios Beacon, a supporter of the Palacios Hospital and a volunteer for Martha's Table, Carol embraced life every day with loving energy, joy, amazement and appreciation.

In her later years Carol fought courageously through health challenges with grace and strength, living her life gently and firmly, exactly as she saw fit. Remaining with us for as long as she was able, in her final days she helped her loved ones navigate their goodbyes, departing peacefully and comfortably with her husband at her bedside.

A life-long woman of faith, Carol never doubted her purpose in this life, nor the promise of life everlasting in her heavenly home. She daily lived Christ's eternal love by showing it to and sharing it with others. Although no longer with us physically, Carol has left us a spirit of love, adventure, wonder, delight, faith and hope that will continue to comfort and sustain us until we once more gaze into her smiling eyes and look upon her radiant face.
