Obituary

Madelyn Phillips Dismukes,86, of Bay City passed away December 2, 2008. She was born July 10, 1922 in San Angustine County, Texas to the late Hubert Alexander Phillips and Mina Walker Phillips.

Madelyn started school in Lufkin, TX and graduated from Dayton High School in 1939. She worked in Liberty and Dayton prior to working at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, during the war. She returned to Dayton where she met and married Kirby Dismukes in 1947.

They moved to College Station, TX for Kirby to finish school while she worked in the Veteran Billing Section of Administration at Texas A&M, working on their IBM computers. Following graduation they moved to Bay City, TX, in 1951.

Madelyn loved her family and church, joining the First Baptist Church soon after arrival in Bay City. She also loved her many friends, traveling, and walks on the Matagorda Beach.

Madelyn was active in the Gleanors Sunday School Class for many years. Prior to that, she worked with young people in the church. She worked as a Pink Lady in the hospital for many years before retirement.

She is survived by her husband Kirby Dismukes; her daughter Paula Davis and husband Larry; grandson Jason Hurley; and granddaughter Jennifer Rodriguez and husband Jeramy. She is also survived by her 2 great-granddaughters Madysen and Dominique; her sister-in-law Joan Phillips; and very special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Nancy Poncik, grandson Christopher Hurley and her three brothers, Norman E. Phillips, Claude Andrew Phillips and Hubert O. Phillips.

The family will receive visitors from 6 PM to 8 PM Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Bay City with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tony Poncik, Frank Bathe, Garlan Hinman, Chris Hajovsky, Paul Phillips, and Steven Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles McManus, Vernon Leissner, James Hajovsky, Dr. Frank Rickman, Sam Maglitto, Jim Powers Jr., Lee Waldrop, and Bob Phillips.

The family, in lieu of flowers, request memorials made to First Baptist Church or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
