Mabel Fay Powers Harvey, 98, of Bay City, Texas, passed away June 9, 2016. She was born in Palacios, Matagorda County, Texas, on June 30, 1917 to the late Frank Jerod Powers and Elsie Mae Powers on their farm near the Tres Palacios River. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her siblings Fern Harvey, J.E. Powers, Wilbur Powers, Eldon Powers, Maxine Powers Schooley, and Frankie Powers.
All the Powers children attended the nearby Prairie Center school, traveling by horseback each day. As young children, Fay and Fern were responsible for tending and milking approximately seventeen milch cows on the farm of their grandparents, Wilber Jerod Powers and Mary Viola Heiser Powers.
Fay and Laure Harvey raised a family of three children; Ronny, Pat, and Mike Harvey. As a bookkeeper, she worked in Bay City for several local business including Russell Drilling Co., The Daily Tribune, and the country club. By working outside the home, Fay was able to send all three of her children to college.
Survivors include Ronald Harvey & wife Charlene of Sugar Land, Pat Harvey Fariss and husband Jack, Pearland, and Mike Harvey of Fredericksburg; grandchildren Kristin Themy and husband Dean of Missouri City, Rhonda Fariss of Round Rock, Jamie Wayt and husband Bryce of Los Angeles, California; great grandchildren Zach Elkins of Houston, Andrew Essl, College Station, and Chandler Essl, Missouri City.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 17, 2016, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Palacios. Visitation prior to the service will begin at 1:00. Following interment at the Palacios Cemetery, the family will host a reception in Weimer Hall, First United Methodist Church. Serving as pallbearers will be Ron Harvey, Mike Harvey, Jack Fariss, Dean Themy, Bryce Wayt, Zach Elkins, Andrew Essl, and Chandler Essl.
