Luis Huerta, Jr., 92, of Van Vleck went to be with our Lord and Savior peacefully on May 17, 2024, surrounded by his family.
John 5:24

He was born on March 8, 1932 in San Benito, Texas to Luis Huerta, Sr. and Mercedes Jalomo Huerta.
Luis graduated from San Benito High School, home of the Mighty Greyhounds, in 1950. He worked at Dow Chemical until he was drafted by the Army in January 1953. Traveling to El Campo to hand pick cotton, he found true love when he stood up in the middle of a cotton field for a brief moment and looked directly into the eyes of a beautiful young lady named Luisa. He married her that year before being shipped off to Korea. Huerta served as Sargent, Military Police, Section Leader leading 4 Platoons stationed in Pusan, Korea from 1953-1954.
Upon returning from Korea in 1955, he attended Texas Southmost College in Brownsville until 1956. He returned to Bay City in 1957 and started working at Felix Petroleum. Huerta had developed a reputation as a hard worker and was offered a job at Alamo Lumber Company. He retired from Alamo Lumber on February 26, 2016, after 48 years of faithful service.
Luis lived his life as an honest, hardworking family man and instilled Christian values in his children.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Maria Luisa Mireles Huerta, his father Luis Huerta, Sr., his mother Mercedes Jalomo Huerta, and his brothers Raymundo Huerta, Angel Huerta and infant brother Severo Huerta.
He is survived by his children Delia (David) Castillo of Pledger, TX, Diana (Ronnie) Meyers of Wharton, TX, Dolia (Joe) Ramirez of Wharton, TX, Susie Huerta of Bay City, TX, Louis (Jenny) Huerta, III of Sweeny, TX, and Mercedes (Ignacio) Hernandez of Wharton, TX; brother Raul Huerta, Sr.; 14 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 26 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Thursday, May 23, 2024 at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church followed by a Prayer Service at 6:00 PM. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM Friday at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church with Rev. Kevin Blake officiating. Military graveside services will commence at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, TX immediately following the Funeral service. Pallbearers for Mr. Huerta will be David Castillo, Jr., Mark Castillo, Raymond Ramirez, Jr., Fred Cantu, Jr., Alex Cantu and Vicente Borrego. Honorary pallbearers will be Kimberly Castillo and Alison Castillo Martinez.
