Lucia M. Lozano, 92, of Bay City passed away October 6, 2020. She was born September 16, 1928 in Berwind, Colorado. She was the last survivor of 12 children to the late Hermenegildo and Isabel Barron.
Lucy came to Texas with her family at the age of 5. They worked in the cotton fields around El Campo, Danevang and El Maton. She was a 1949 graduate of Bay City High School.
Mom met and married the love of her life, Paul Lozano Sr. Together they raised a total of 10 children with mom having the hardest job of all being a stay at home mom. She cooked, cleaned and maintained a full schedule associated with a house full of children. Mom was also a Den Mother to both Girl Scouts Pack 226 and Boy Scouts Pack 51 for several years.
She was a long-time faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. In the parish's early years, she would call people to offer flowers and pray the Rosary during the months of May and October. Lucy was also well known for calling in volunteers for Church functions. She cleaned the church for many years and sang in the choir. She belonged to the Guadalupanas and was an Auxiliary Member of the Legion of Mary, the CYO and worked and organized the church bazaars. In addition to her commitments to her church, her civic duty was fulfilled by calling people to "get out and vote".
She loved fishing, crabbing, Astros Baseball, and her daytime Soaps especially General Hospital. Her and Dad enjoyed watching "Dallas" together. She even fiqured out who shot JR; but she always made time for her grandchildren.
Her husband preceded her in death on April 6, 2009. She is survived by her children, Mary Isabel Lozano, Joe A. Lozano, Pete Lozano (Debbie), Guadalupe Lozano (Veronica), Paul Lozano Jr. (Sendy), Martha Sharpe (Christopher), Dolores Schurtz (Joel), Rachel Huerta (Raul Jr.) Vincente Gonzalez (Helen) and Lucy Lozano Woodward (Paul). Mom was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 1:30 PM Monday, October 12, 2020 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 PM with Rev. Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jose H. Lozano, Keenan Sharpe, Joel Schurtz Jr., Noel Lozano, Daniel Sharpe and Ramiro Martinez Jr.
Mom's last wish: Follow the Commandments, love one another always and pray the Rosary.
