IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Loydale Ilene
Richardson
October 24, 1927 – July 4, 2024
Loydale Ilene Denny Richardson passed away on July 4, 2024, at the age of 96. She was born in Okfuskee County, OK, on October 24, 1927, to Cleburn Denny and Edith "Edie" Nunn.
Lolly (as she has been called since her then husband Bill Hancock gave her that nickname when she was 16) grew up partly on her grandparent's farm and later in school in Okmulgee, OK until her marriage and she moved to her husband's home town of Mobile, AL. A job change took them to Kansas City, KS where she worked doing accounting for Graybar Electric. Another job change for Bill took them to the Houston area where she was able to transfer to Graybar's Houston office.
Her brother-in-law was also transferred to the Houston area working with TRW systems in the NASA area. He encouraged her to apply there as well. Her work with TRW was in the MTCP (Mission Trajectory Control Program) preparing financial statements, budgets and manpower forecasting working with NASA. She loved this and found the space program work very exciting. After the moon landing she was honored to be one of 5 people from TRW to attend a luncheon for the astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins--their first public apperance after being quarantined. She had all their autographs, and also met and enjoyed a conversation with Dr. Werner von Braun. When their contract ended she was offered a job in the California office but she and her supervisor stayed in Houston and went to work for M. W. Kellogg Construction Company.
Her new marriage to James Richardson brought retirement and a new passion for genealogy detecting. She found several interesting relatives, one of which was the Nascar driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., which brought a new passion--she became his devoted fan and race enthusiast for 25 years!
One of Lolly's lifelong pastimes was reading--on the farm she only had the Sears Catalog, Webster's dictionary, Progressive Farmer, and The Holy Bible. One summer her Grandfather offered her $5.00 to read the entire Bible--a challenge she accepted and happily earned the huge trophy! A move to a town with a free library brought such joy "hog heaven" can't even describe it adequately!
Bill and Lolly had three children: sons Ronald Dallas and Brent Trevor, and daughter Andrea Dee.
Lolly was preceded in death by her parents, Cleburn and Edith Denny, husband, James Richardson, sons Ronald Hancock and Brent Hancock.
She is survived by her sister, Robbie (and brother-in-law) Don Erwin, her daughter-in-law Karen Hancock, daughter Andrea Hancock, grandchildren Jeffrey (Noreen) Hancock, Jason Hancock, Crystal (Josh) Walsh, Ami (Cruizer) Jolly, and Brent, Jr. (June) Hancock. She had 12 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
