Louis August Poessel, 91, of Blessing passed away January 17, 2017. He was born December 6, 1925 to the late August and Albina (Faltiska) Poessel in East Bernard, Texas.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church for 77 years and a member of S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #148 for 71 years.
He attended Blessing High School as Tidehaven wasn't built until 1950. In 1955 he went to work in Bay City for the A.S.C.S. Agriculture office where he measured fields for 19 years. He then became a rancher and farmer until his retirement in 2003.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruby Horecka Poessel and sister Lillian Hlavinka.
Survivors include his wife Helen (Kutach) Poessel; sons Louis (Debbie) Poessel of Palacios and Danny (Kathleen) Poessel of Blessing; step-children Johnnie Marie Pechacek of Houston, Michael (Judy) Novak of Palacios, Carolyn (Darrell) Sohr of Angleton, Theresa Henkes of Blessing, Richard Novak of Humble and Andrew (Mary) Novak of Lake Jackson; 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM Friday, January 20, 2017 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Friday, January 20, 2017 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Gabriel Mensah officiating. He will be laid to rest at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Blessing.
Pallbearers will be Clint Sohr, Scott Poessel, Jeffery Poessel, Matthew Henkes, Matthew Benner and James Henderson. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews Jack Hlavinka, Sylvester Hlavinka and Anthony Hlavinka.
