Obituary

Louis Kopnicky, Jr., 85, of Markham, Texas, went to be with the Lord on September 6, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born March 17, 1939, in Deutschburg, Texas, to the late Louis Kopnicky, Sr. and Mary Johnson Kopnicky.

Louis, also known as Junior, attended grade school in Deutschburg then Blessing and graduated from Tidehaven High School in 1957. Louis developed his work ethic while working as a ranch hand on the family farm and the Cornelius ranch. After marrying Rosemary Ryman in September of 1957, they moved to Houston.  Louis began his career with Texaco on June 3, 1963, as a computer operator.  He attended the University of Houston while he worked for Texaco. Louis was a dedicated employee for thirty-two years and made lifelong friends along the way.  He retired in 1995 and moved back to Markham to help care for his Aunt Dutchie until her death. Louis remained in Markham and was active in the Blessing Lion's Club, volunteering for the Matagorda Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Bay City Library, and Matagorda County Museum.  He was known as "Markham's Historian," due to his extensive knowledge of the town's history. He had a vast collection of pictures from past decades and an interesting story to tell of each one of them.  Louis' hobbies throughout his life were hunting, traveling to all the states, restoring tractors, and working out in his barn, but spending time with his grandchildren was his one true passion.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jon Kopnicky, his aunt, Nannie Belle (Dutchie) Keith, and sister-in-law, Thelma Kopnicky.

His family that will miss him dearly are his sister, Mollie Martin of Point Blank, Texas, his five children: Diana Isaac (Mike), Donnie Kopnicky, Vickie Lansford (Richard), Kathy Landry (Keith), and Tracey Grissett, grandchildren: Venus Ryman, Donald Kopnicky, II, Nicole Conn (William), Richard Lansford, Jr., Chelsea Ramirez (Michael),  Natasha Garza (Hector), Dustin Landry (Amber), Shelbie Dreymala, Brandee Grissett (Rob), Haylee Grissett, and Kassee Creamer (Case), his 15 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Angels Home Health and St. Joseph Burleson for providing special care to Louis.

The family will receive relatives and friends for visitation from 1-2:00pm Monday, September 16, 2024, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Bay City (979) 245-4613. Funeral Services will begin at 2:00pm with Rev. John Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Deutschburg Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jonny Kopnicky, Jeremy Kopnicky, Dustin Landry, Ryker Landry, Alexander Alvarado, Hector Garza, William Conn, and Robert Phillips. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Lansford, Richard Lansford, Jr., Jody Kopnicky, James Kopnicky, Case Creamer and Chris Martin.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Louis' high school alma mater, Tidehaven High School are greatly appreciated.
