Obituary

Lester Matura, age 76, of Bay City passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026. Lester was born on September 18, 1949, in Hollandale, Mississippi to the late Louis Matura and Frances Applegate Matura.

He was route salesman for Mrs. Baird’s for 38 ½ years delivering bread and pastries all over Matagorda County. He made many friends over the years. The grandkids loved it most when they could go visit Pepal and go shopping on his bread truck for donuts and pies. After he retired from Mrs. Baird’s in 2010, he worked on small engines for friends and family.

He was a loving, caring and devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a man of few words. Never had a lot to say except when the grandkids came to visit. They kept him busy from riding on the lawnmower to playing baseball in the yard.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers J.D., Leonard, Raymond, Orvel, Dan, his sisters Flossie, Louise, and Lois.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Jacqueline Hamilton Matura, his son Thomas Matura; daughter Stephanie Reed and son-in-law Robby Reed. Grandchildren Kailah Matura, Robert Reed III, Kade Matura, Ruger Reed, and great-granddaughter, Sutton Schulz, sisters Ruby Oros, Margie Sain and Kathy Corporon and brother-in-law, Carl Corporon, along with numerous nephews and nieces.

He will be greatly missed by all and especially his donkey, Pilsbury.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. with Lane Pardue officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers are Thomas Matura, Robert Reed III, Ruger Reed, Kade Matura, Ryan Abercrombie, and Tommy Matura.

Honorary Pallbearers are Robby Reed, Tim White and Joe Ochoa.
