Obituary

Leonard Leon Lamar was born in Houston, Texas, on March 15, 1936, to Leonard and Bea Lamar. He passed away on May 2, 2020, in Columbus, Texas. He lived more than half his life in Palacios, serving as mayor, county commissioner, volunteer firefighter, director of Palacios Housing Authority, Sergeant-at-Arms in Rotary, member of the Chamber of Commerce and numerous civic organizations, including the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Kevin and Jimmy, and his beloved wife Joan. He is survived by three sons: Joel, Larry, and Kenneth; three daughters: Cherylann, Jeannette, and Pamela; step-sons: Bobby, Dale, and Jimmy Porter; sister and brother-in-law: Florence and John Crews; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends.

Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2020, at Hawley Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Palacios Volunteer Fire Department or Pet Pals of Palacios.
