Lena Annie Saha of El Maton died on Saturday, September 28, 2013, in Bay City, Texas, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. " Grandma Saha", as she was affectionately known throughout the community, was ninety-one years old. She laughingly referred to herself as a " a 1922 model".
Lena was born to Louis and Annie Prihoda of Ellinger, Texas, on March 16, 1922. On January 9, 1942, Lena married Emil Saha, and they spent thirty happy years together until Emil's death in 1972. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, Louis, Robert, Sylvester, and Fred, and two sisters, Cornelia and Anita.
Lena, a devout Catholic who loved God, her family, and her Czech heritage, was a member of the Blessing Altar Society. She spent thirty years working for Tidehaven ISD, retiring as cafeteria manager at Tidehaven High School at the age of eighty. Grandma Saha was known for her kolaches and cinnamon rolls.
Lena Saha is survived by her children: Suzanne and David Kucera, Garry and Sharon Saha, Anned and Marion Gilbert, Kathy and Tommy Boyett, Marvin and Charlotte Saha, Mike and Janet Saha, and Cynthia and Steve Heard. "Grandma Saha" is also survived by her grandchildren: Jason Kucera, David and Inez Kucera, Tami and Dan Werring, Garry Ray and Lafy Saha, Joni and Jan Suchordt, John and Amanda Saha, Steven and Lacey Gilbert, John and Katie Gilbert, Thomas and Hollie Boyett, Chris and Cassie Boyett, Angela and Frank Dixon, Greg and Rebecca Saha, Jane Saha, Kara Saha, Sheri and Kelly Mayfield, Mikey and Christa Saha, Stacey and Kade Spencer, Mark Saha, Stephen and Lindy Heard, Brent and Kari Heard, and Kyle Heard. Lena Saha is survived by thirty-one great grandchildren with another due this year, and by Gladys Polasek, her sister, Lebert Prihoda, her brother, and Lillie Prihoda, her sister-in-law.
A rosary for Lena Saha will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing, Texas, Monday, September 30th at 7:00P.M. and a funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing. Burial will be at the Catholic Cemetery in Blessing.
