Leila May Redden was born at home on November 4, 1911 in Mills County, Texas to Alonzo and Nevada Harris.
A longtime resident of Baytown, she passed away on August 14, 2010 at Matagorda House in Bay City, Texas. She married Ollie G. Redden in 1935.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her son Robert Jim Redden. May was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her talents included being an expert quilter, crocheter and knitter and a skilled cake decorator. She was known as a fabulous cook, gardener, and fisherman.
May is survived by her brother Louis A. Harris and Ouida of Humble, her children Jerry W. Redden and Jewel of Trinity, Charles Redden and Dee of Livingston, Ollie Matthews and Jack of Bay City, and daughter-in-law Ellen Redden of Shepard, her grandchildren John, Jason, Michael and Steven Redden, Jennifer Reinhardt, Trey Rugeley and Leanne Sliva, and 10 great-grandchildren. Also, she leaves a special niece Nelda Joyce Holleman, nephews Joe Harris and Norman Crawford, and special friends Bonnie Cox, Irma Jewel Woods, and Estelle Delcoure. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, and grandsons-in-law. Special thanks to all of the staff at Matagorda House and A-Med Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
Graveside services were held at Earthman Memory Gardens, 8624 Garth Road, Baytown, TX., at 1P.M. Tuesday, Aug. 17
