LaVerne Ward, 85, of Bay City passed away February 23, 2024.  She was born June 29, 1938 in Memphis, Texas to the late Burris and Ruth Kempson.

She graduated from Borger High School in 1956. She graduated from nursing school in Amarillo as a licensed RN in 1959. She was employed by Phillips Petroleum in Phillips, TX as RN.  In 1960, she married Calvin Ward. They moved to Bay City in 1964.

She loved to spend time with her family and acting as Camp Host.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Lee Ward. Survivors include her husband, Calvin Ward; daughter Melinda Burrus of Eunice, LA ; son Kevin Ward and his wife Stephanie of Van Vleck; sister Louisa Brown; grandchildren Rachel Harris, Sara Janot, Felecia Martin, Joshua Ward, Miranda Benham, Beth Creach, Caden Ward and Landon Ward, and 15 great grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Monday, February 26, 2024 at the First Methodist Church in Van Vleck.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM with Rev. William Murphree officiating.  Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.  Pallbearers will be Caden Ward, Landon Ward, Toby Janot, Wyatt Harris.
