Obituary

Laura Martinez is survived by her Mother, Elodia (Lola) Vega Martinez, brother Raymond Norberto Martinez, sister Pam Martinez, and nephew Steven R. Martinez. Her mother-in-law, Elma Gallegos, sister-in-law, Ana Gallegos, brother-in-law Chris Gallegos and the love of her life Reymundo Gallegos, and their precious babies: Nina, Princess, Mr. Black, and Mr. Brown. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Laura was preceeded in death by her father Domingo Martinez. Paternal grandparents Eusebio and Guadalupe P. Martinez.Maternal grandparents Rev. Apolonio and Nicolasa Tovar Vega. On Wed Jan 8, Laura succumbed to complications of double pneumonia, resulting in cardiac arrest. She was 50 years old. She was born in Bay City, Texas on Sept 6, 1963. She graduated from James Madison High School in Houston in 1982. She briefly attended The University Of Houston- Downtown. Laura worked in Healthcare for most of her adult life. Her warm, outgoing nature is how she met people and built a rapport. The kind of person you would always want around. She was a free spirit and very young at heart. She loved life and having a good time. Always on the go. She knew how to implement ideas and cheer on the team. Laura has been a MYF youth counselor, and volunteered at her church, Westbury UMC. She has assisted the elderly, as well as the homeless at a day shelter. She contributed her efforts to causes such as the National Kidney Foundation, March of Dimes, Autism Speaks, etc. Some of her activities were attending church, entertaining family and friends in her home, attending live music concerts, shopping, couponing, singing, playing piano, and exploring the latest technical or kitchen gadgets. Laura will be remembered for her sincere friendship, and she will be greatly missed by so many who Loved her!

A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Abel Vega, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steven Martinez, Stephen Martinez,Timothy Vega, Ronnie Rodriguez and Ana Gallegos.
