Obituary

Larry Mitchell, age 69, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday evening January 22, 2011. Larry was born in Wadsworth, Texas to Earl and Lillian Mitchell on June 16, 1941. He is the oldest of six children.
Larry married Kay Frances Allen on December 23, 1963. Larry spent three years in the United States Army and served a tour in both Vietnam and Korea. After an honorable discharge from the service, Larry began his career in the computer field. He worked for Dow Chemical until his retirement in 1993. During his years with Dow, Larry and Kay lived in Angleton, Texas, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Midland, Michigan.
Larry was a faithful and devout Catholic. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved spending time at the gun range with his son and grandson. He looked forward each spring to the annual Toledo Bend fishing trip with his retired Dow buddies. He loved to cook and was best known for his Cajun recipes. Larry loved taking his Labrador for long walks every night. Larry and Kay enjoyed being outdoors together. Larry especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, son and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kay Frances Allen Mitchell, their son Chris, four grandchildren Chelsea, Alexandra, Emily, and Zachary, two sisters and three brothers Linda Bucek and husband John, Daniel Mitchell and wife Cathy, Beverly Mitchell and her husband BJ, Jeffrey Mitchell and his wife Teresa and James Mitchell and his wife Paula and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Lillian Mitchell.
Public visitation will start 9 AM Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 6 PM to 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. The rosary will be held 7 PM Thursday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Mass will be held 10 AM Friday, January 28, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Brandon Mitchell, Craig Mitchell, John Bucek, John Krobot, Richard Krobot, and Link Anderson.
