Obituary

Larry Edward Lewis, 59, of Bay City was graciously called home by God, after a battle with cancer on July 9, 2010. He was born September 21, 1950 in Bay City, TX to James Edward and Mary Helen Smith Lewis. He was a 1970 graduate of Van Vleck High School and graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1975. He married his childhood sweetheart, Bennie Jo Weathers on August 21, 1971. He worked for 25 years at Amoco Production Company and currently worked for El Paso Corporation in Houston.

Larry was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He let his life shine for Christ and was a witness for his Lord everywhere he went. It has been said that he made his workplace his Mission Field.

Survivors include his wife of almost 39 years, Bennie Jo Lewis of Bay City; mother Helen Lewis of Bay City; daughter Tammy Annette Smith & husband Trey of Longview; sons Jason Edward Lewis of Bay City and Brian Keith Lewis & wife Robbi of Kilgore; sister Gail Elizabeth Denn & husband Vernon of Bay City; brothers Mark Alan Lewis of Florida & James Allen Lewis & wife Sherry of Brazoria; grandchildren Paige, Noah, Jaidyn, Chase & Hailey Lewis and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6pm to 8pm Monday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Cedar Lane Baptist Church with Rev. David Roach officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Raymond Brooker, Ronnie Woolsey, Ray Horton, Paul Hill, Bill Bona and Willie Denbow. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Grisham, Glenn Robertson, Don Ross, Gary Powell and his co-workers from El Paso Corporation. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Houston Hospice for their care and time. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Lane Baptist Church; PO
