Obituary

Larry Walker Lanfear was born on June 15, 1955, to Nell and Robert Gage Lanfear in Wharton, Texas. He grew up in Port Lavaca, where he developed a lifelong love for golf and the great outdoors.

A proud member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1977, Larry wore maroon like a second skin. His time at Texas A&M was filled with lasting friendships, fierce rugby matches, and a deep sense of school pride that stayed with him throughout his life.

After college, Larry spent a short time in Angleton, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Beverly (Blaha) Lanfear. They married on May 15, 1982. In 1984, they moved to Palacios, where they planted deep roots and raised their family. It was there that Larry took over his grandfather's store, Covey's Corner—a true local landmark. Most mornings, you could find the town's business being solved over a cup of coffee, with Larry swapping fishing and hunting stories, always with a grin.

Later, Larry founded his own construction business, building everything from fishing piers to custom homes. He took immense pride in doing things the right way—no shortcuts, just honest, quality work that stood the test of time.

More than anything, Larry loved his family. He passed down his passion for the outdoors and baseball to his sons and took great joy in watching his grandkids grow. Whether he was firing up his pit for a barbecue, working outside with his hands, or cracking jokes as the life of the party, Larry brought heart and humor to everything he did.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Beverly, and their sons: Covey (wife Magen, and grandchildren Brenley, 9, and Brayden, 5) and Paul (wife Cady, and grandchildren Wyatt, 11, Walker, 5, and Weston, 3). He also leaves behind his sister, Lani (nieces Madeleine and Julia), and countless friends who became like family over the years.

Larry was an avid sportsman, a master of the grill, a hard worker, a storyteller, and above all—a loving husband, brother, dad, and grandpa. He never met a stranger and never passed up a chance to lend a hand or share a laugh. His legacy of warmth, grit, and good humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Palacios Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow on Friday, April 11, at 2:00 p.m. at Hawley Cemetery.
