Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Lee Head on September 26, 2026, at the age of 82.

Larry was born on December 14, 1943, in Bay City, Texas, to Woodrow and Martha Head. He attended Catholic school in Bay City through the eighth grade and later attended Bay City High School, where he pitched for the baseball team. Larry loved baseball and especially enjoyed telling the story of how he struck out Nolan Ryan during his senior season.

Larry served four years in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska and at Fort Hood. After his military service, he moved to Houston and held several jobs, including a position with Oshman’s Sporting Goods, where he outfitted local schools and community sports leagues with uniforms, equipment, and supplies.

Larry later moved to Sargent, Texas, where he started a lawn and landscaping business. He also began growing an organic garden as a hobby. That hobby eventually became a profitable business through which he sold produce to Whole Foods in Houston.

In 1990, Larry married Margaret Ann Newman, and they made their home in Sargent. Through their marriage, Larry became a stepfather to Margaret’s four children. He embraced being a stepdad and loved the children as his own. Larry treasured family gatherings, especially those that included grilling deer steaks and sharing his special homemade beef jerky with the children.

Larry loved sports, hunting, and fishing. He was a kind and generous man with a soft heart for those in need. He treated his employees like family, often providing lunch and sending them home with even more.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow “Woody” Wilson Head; his mother, Martha Machacek Head; and his brother, Danny Head.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Head; his sister, Lana Sue Head; his children, Robin Ramby, Lance Newman, Jennifer Coe, Dudley Coe, and Jason Newman; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home on Monday, November 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. The family would be grateful to see those who knew and loved Larry.

Larry’s smile, his jokes, and his presence will be greatly missed.
