Kathleen Erna Sanford Strozier, 90, of Bay City passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010 at her residence. Kathleen was born on August 18, 1916 in Non, Oklahoma, the middle child of Lorena Levina and Thomas Jefferson Sanford. From an early age Kathleen knew she wanted to teach so she received a BS degree from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma and in 1950 she received a Masters Degree from the University of Houston. She taught school in Oklahoma, California and Texas. While in Oklahoma, she met Ted (C.E.) Strozier and they were married in Durant, Oklahoma on November 12, 1938. They were married for 50 years until he passed away on October 21, 1989 in Bay City. Ted's service in the Navy took the couple to California and in 1947 Ted took a job with Mobil Oil Company that sent him to Bay City. Kathleen taught in several school districts including Edna, Wharton, Van Vleck and Bay City. She was a dedicated teacher and dearly loved her students and her students loved her kindness, sense of humor and generosity. She was also active in many professional organizations. She was a lifetime member of TSTA serving as treasurer of district 111for 9 years and also serving as a building representative for many years. She was a member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association serving as a delegate to the NEA convention for 6 years. She used her love of Math to serve as a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and on the local chapter of the Gulf Coast Math Council. She also served her community as a member of the Bay City Pilot Club and was a charter member and past president of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. She loved to travel and enjoyed going places with her niece, DiAnn. She loved to visit Alaska, Washington D.C., Disney World, and especially Las Vegas, where she won several jack pots playing slot machines. She also loved gardening and raising tomatoes. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Bay City. She loved God, her country, her family and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Strozier and her parents. She is survived by her nieces, DiAnn Sanford of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Eldona Cronemeyer and her husband Donald of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and by her great nieces, DawnRenee Cronemeyer of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Holly Cronemeyer of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is also survived by great-great nieces, Alexis Cronemeyer and Randi King of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and great-great nephews, Isaac Cronemeyer and Noak King of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Bay City with Dr Michael Zimmerman officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery.
