Juakana Nolen, 78, of Sweeny, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2005 in Clute, TX. She was born April 21, 1927 in Coleman, TX to Johnny Vercher and Beatrice Reasoner Vercher. She was a resident of Sweeny for the past 58 years, a retired school teacher from West Columbia I.S.D. and a member of the First Baptist Church of Sweeny.

She is survived by her daughter: Tercia Turner of Houston; by her son: Michael Nolen and wife Bennie of Rocksprings, TX; by her grandchildren: Monica Gutierrez, Michael Nolen, and Julie Hartman; and by five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: Johnny & Beatrice Vercher and by her brother: James Vercher.

Visitation will be at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home from 9 AM to 9 PM Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 18, 2005 at the First Baptist Church of Sweeny with Rev. Jerl Watkins officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Michael Nolen, Michael Green, David Hartman, Steven Gutierrez, Christopher Gutierrez and Gary Winscott.
